fill the bucket, empty the bucket

i just spent 10 minutes watching sparklet fill the dump truck with mulch, empty the mulch from the dump truck, fill the dump truck, empty the dump truck …

when she finally got bored with that she found a bucket — and i spent 15 minutes watching sparklet fill the bucket with mulch, empty the bucket of mulch, fill the bucket of mulch, empty the bucket of mulch …

i actually have video proof — but it is not for the those with a low threshold of boredom.

… and i only took the video because i needed something to do to prevent me from lapsing into a coma.

i can’t believe i have a worse case of A.D.D. than my child. where did she get this attention span from?

sparklet’s been taking three or four steps for a couple weeks now — far, but not far enough to get out the video camera.

today we finally got our act together and took her out to a nearby ballfield (guy mason park in glover park). that gave us enough space to put the camera on a tripod, which giving us the four hands required for this sort of walk-training instead of just two.

while this is technically her second time walking with some kind of mechanical assistance, it’s the first time we’ve gotten video.

up until this weekend, i was about two months behind on stitching together videos — and i’m starting to understand how people end up with stacks and stacks of mini-dv tapes piled up on a shelf, collecting dust.

but, before you watch any of the rest of the videos, watch the outtake above. laugh-out-loud funny. in hindsight.

  • stairs — sparklet is moving up and down stairs like nobody’s business. of course, we don’t have any, so we have to borrow the stairs at the playground.
  • baby/birds in a bucket — the full session that produced the (hilarious!) outake above.
  • bubble gum — two rules, do something cute and don’t eat the camera. did okay on the first. not so much on the latter.
  • sparklet’s first film — it’s a little avant guarde. or maybe just weird for the sake of being weird. but who am i to judge?

this video is not mine (my brother took it with his fancy-pants camera phone) but this is exactly how i’ll remember walking into fenway for the first time. family, green monster, stadium. and they even won, too.

after a week of “is that really a wave” questions, we’re willing to call it … it’s a wave. and once she starts, she just won’t stop.

over the last couple of weeks, we’ve seen lots of pseudo-crawling/stops and starts … but this is the first honest-to-God, as-seen-on-TV crawling we’ve ever gotten.

it’s not scampering around on all fours, but sparklet is now using her arms/torso to drag her healthily-sized bottom around. if emily the cat only knew … her life will never be the same.

sparklet swimming was great and all, but maggie the swimming dog was the sub-plot that stole the show … even for our beloved protagonist.

sparklet’s latest trick … we don’t know exactly what it means (yet) but our leading guesses are that she’s either tired or hungry. unfortunately she makes the noise all the time, so either of those two options could very well be true.

ps. it’s better when you can hear the soundtrack. as an aside, i quickly figured out that she would only rollover when i was *not* in the room, so i setup the camera and hid in the hallway until she flipped. worked like a champ. i guess she must have had performance anxiety.
