it wasn’t ten minutes into our dinner tonight at hank’s oyster bar that i noticed — sparklet was tonight’s reminder to all the couples in the room to use birth control.

we’re pretty sure she’s getting sick (head cold), she’s teething out of her skull (we’re up to 8 teeth now, at least that we can see), she’s not sleeping (see first two) and now that she’s walking regularly, she’s just not finding the sweet confines of a high chair quite as alluring.

i did the first (of what i’m sure will be many) evacuation of a restaurant so others could eat in peace — which is more than fine, as i’m always the first one done eating.

we decided to play in traffic (and with strange dogs) instead.

auntie jojo is town this weekend, which means we have all sorts of bonuses — extra set of hands, extra eyes for averting potential disasters, extra brain to cover the sleep deprived, extra attention span for she-who-has-separation-anxiety, and an extra person looking through the view finder. i hope she never leaves.

after last week’s fill-the-bucket-with-mulch-a-thon i decided to spring the $2.79 — i know, i know, it wouldn’t have been so expensive at IKEA — to buy sparklet a bucket of her very own.

sparklet was so enraptured that she refused to give the bucket to the guy behind the counter to check out. now, if only we had some mulch to put in the bucket …

it was an interesting trip back from Williamsburg.

we left right before nap time so she’s sleep on the way, but she threw up around mile 65, let forth a massive poo around mile 120, and then we finally gave up at mile 175 (Potomac Mills) because we just couldn’t stand being in the car any longer. (she never napped.)

the one thing i love about IKEA is because it is a lot like taco bell — try as you may, it’s really hard to walk out of there spending more than half at what you’d spend at any of their competitors.

seriously, we got sparklet her birthday presents — a table/chair set and a 6-foot long alligator/crocodile (i can never tell the difference, especially when fake) — and all together they cost $0.37.

oh, if you see sparklet, don’t tell her what we got her for her birthday. don’t want to ruin the surprise.

UPDATE: in the small miracles department, sparklet slept through the night after skipping her afternoon nap on the way back from williamsburg. i’m not sure the 12 hours of uninterrupted sleep is worth the pain of cranky daytime sparklet, but it’s a hypothetical that i’m willing to explore 🙂

  • firsts: crayons

one could argue that this is sparklet’s second use of crayons, but if she drew my father’s day present without mommy’s help then we seriously need to pass on pre-school and send her straight to the School of the Art Institute in Chicago.

first crayons: plaza azteca, williamsburg, virginia.
