excessive laundry
httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_b_D9DUG7SY
about a month ago, our washing machine went kaput — and decided to flood the unit below ours.oops.
the guy who lives there came up and told us, and was pretty chill about the whole thing.
“oh, the last time this happened …”
huh?
turns out the previous owners of our unit flooded his apartment … as did the owners before them. actually, one of them did it twice, apparently.
and, when we i pulled the washing machine out from the closet to see what the heck was going on, there was a half inch gap between the wall and the floor — so any time water splashed out of our machine, it went right through to the ceiling of his unit.
so, i spent last weekend patching the open space — wood, plaster, caulk — and spent this weekend painting everything up nice and spiffy.
and, while the lady sparkler was buying us new laundry equipment to complete the mini-renovation, baby sparklet was discovering the joy of automatic doors (see video, above).
priceless.

holiday card 2010
dear friends,it’s been a crazy year, with hundreds of moments strung together into wonderful whole — and it was our friends and family that have bound the year together for us.
it’s you who’ve given us the framework for our joy and we want to say thanks before we get too far outside the window of sentimentality that the holiday season provides.
and so, may the very best of the season be with you this new year. may you experience in your life the joy, love and peace that you have brought to ours.
with much love,
tasha, evan and kate parkerSee Greeting Card on Pingg:

you suck, montgomery county
just got a “notice of delinquent parking ticket” in the mail from montgomery county, maryland for parking at an expired meter on november 12th at 5:17pm.there are a couple of problems with this scenario:
- we never got the original notice of the parking violation for which we are now “delinquent.”
- i wasn’t in montgomery county that day — twelve minutes before our “violation,” i took these pictures of kate at our home in mount pleasant and proceeded to upload them to flickr four minutes *after* our violation.
- my wife wasn’t in montgomery county that day — thirty minutes after our “violation,” the lady sparkler stopped by pupusaria san miguel on her way home from work (for the best latin food in D.C., incidentally).
- the “infraction” occurred on a federal holiday (Veteran’s Day) when parking restrictions don’t apply.
- the citation *does not* list a make or model, so there is no confirmation that it was our car and not just a typo of our license plate.
however, the only recourse Montgomery County provides is to appear — in person — before the 6th District Court in Rockville.
given the cost of the ticket (at least in relation to my wife’s billing rate) and the distance between my work and the courthouse (55 minutes in decent traffic) there is no way in h-e-double-hockey-sticks that we’re going to contest the citation.
you suck, montgomery county — yet another reason i’m never moving to the suburbs.

today, i got home from work with sparklet under one arm and three packages under the other. i tossed my keys on the hall table, the packages on the couch and then dropped sparklet down on the floor.
she immediately ran over to the hallway, grabbed my keys off the table, ran back to the couch, and started trying to saw the tape open on the box — just like she had seen daddy do with packages all December long.
kinda make ya proud, doesn’t it?
