so, i’ve fallen back on to the coffee bandwagon. actually, sparklet and i are sucking down liquids at tynan right now — i’m working my way through a café mocha, and she’s working her way through a café mommy.
we just need to get sparklet to switch to decaf. for the last couple of weeks, she’s been going down later (midnight) and later (1:30 am) each night … so late that i’ve started falling asleep on the couch waiting for her to fall asleep on the couch.
and the very worst part are her “pre-sleep” naps — the little false starts that get your hopes up, only to be dashed when her eyes open up like saucers the moment you think you are safe to put her down.
in the good news department, combining ourtwo inconvenient, overnight feedings (2am, 6am) into just one inconvenient, overnight feeding (4am) proved to be a success … which means that the lady sparkler is getting much better sleep and a lot more of it.
now, we just need to get sparklet to lay off those after-dinner lattes she’s been sneaking.
we got her a couple of small things centered around Raymond Briggs’ The Snowman, but this was definitely the calm before the storm … we slept in until 10 am, dawdled around with breakfast until noon, didn’t start unwrapping presents until 2 pm, and took our dear, sweet time. i’m pretty sure that’s the last time we’ll be able to say that.
if sparklet has a christmas of awe and wonder this year, i’m thinking it’s going to be when we go to see the Christmas lights display at the National Zoo. she’ll stare at our little tree for hours, so i can only imagine what will happen when she sees dozens of displays at two or three times the size.
the big win for sparklet so far has been the lights on the christmas tree, and each night she stays completely enraptured with them for hours on end. in hindsight, i guess it makes sense that she’d be pretty happy with a place where every free shrub/tree/building is covered in them.
i wonder if we can potty train her at 12 weeks if we wrap the bathroom with christmas lights?
