Made the rounds of the lights on the National Mall in DC. Stopped by the National Gallery of Art’s skating rink, as well as the Christmas trees at the White House and Capitol.

  • missing hikes

I appear to be missing some hikes. I’ve got records of hiking a couple of trails, but no photos (much less blog posts) to match. Not sure where I put them all, but that was a lot of work for me to loose them.

hopefully i can slowly re-hike my way through the list in the next forty or fifty years of my life, which won’t be a waste of time at all.

    Cadillac Mountain South Ridge Trail
    Acadia National Park, Maine

    Cunningham Falls
    Cunningham Falls State Park, Maryland

    Sugarloaf Mountain
    Stronghold, Maryland

    Antietam National Battlefield
    Sharpsburg, Maryland

    Camel’s Hump
    Camel’s Hump State Forest, Vermont

    Elmore Mountain and Balanced Rock
    Elmore State Park, Vermont

    Ritterbush Lookout and Devil’s Gulch
    Eden, Vermont

    Blackrock Summit
    Shenandoah National Park, Virginia

And that’s not to mention the pictures i have with this post of the Long Trail, but i have no record of ever hiking it.

Which bring up an important point — if a trail is hiked in a forest, but no one takes a picture, did it really happen?

Did a quick overnight hike off Skyline Drive.

Got a late start, was hiking until after duck, and spent a miserable night on the side of a mountain because I actually listened to the park ranger when they said that camping was prohibited next to trails and near water.

The very next morning I passed no less than half a dozen campsites within 4 feet of the trail and 2 feet of the water.

I topped off my four hours of fitful sleeping with a hike back, a collapse at the elkwallow wayside, the best grilled cheese i’ve ever had in my life, and a three hour nap in my car.

i’m getting too old for this sort of thing.

Blew four hours on reworking the flash of my front page, and then axed it as lame in the end. Ick. Gotta plan those things out a little better, I guess.
