i didn’t get much of a paternity leave this summer, so i’ve talked with my team at work and i’m going to try and take a two or three weeks of Fridays between now and the end of the year to make up for the miss.

today’s day one — national gallery of art and the national museum of the american indian. and he only slept through half of it.

the first night in a tent was an unqualified success. sparklet didn’t kick anybody in the head, mighty quinn slept very happily in his little black bouncy chair we brought from home, and everybody slept well past dawn …

… and sparklet got to look at a fire truck up close when someone smelled a gas leak in the street in front of the house. win, win.

firsts: camping

we’re camping. good friends of ours who actually have a yard big enough to put a tent in (the mighty, mighty boigs) are throwing a little cookout/camping thing — and sparklet couldn’t be happier.

the early evening was made a little more exciting by a string of thunderstorms that came through right around bedtime, but that didn’t slow the under 6 year old girl demographic who used the extra time to jump on an air mattress for two or three hours.

sparklet didn’t go to bed until well after 10am, but she was asleep before her head hit the pillow.
