anniversary, revisited

we already had what’s becoming a long standing tradition of screwing up our anniversary, so it wasn’t much of a surprise when sparklet popped out three weeks early on the night we were due to celebrate our second anniversary.

so, when the spindler sisters — who’ve already been saving our bacon all week long — offered to sparklet-sit for us tonight, we grabbed our fancy clothes and flew out the door and had that anniversary dinner we’d been talking about since October and then tacked on a quick trip to the Capitol Christmas tree.

we were a little preocupied about things to talk about that didn’t involve diapers (and we already have a long-standing prohibition about talking work at social events) but in the end we did okay (we stared at each other without speaking). turns out that we enjoyed it enough to do it again in a couple of weeks.

the spindler sisters took baby sparklet on her first metro adventure (to the national portrait gallery) and while there are better pictures of the spindler women from the trip, this is the only one with the crazy-looking guy on the right.

tough week to be a red sox fan. baby sparklet slept through game 6, and then pooped in protest … somewhere, my godmother (and brother, and father) are proud.

well, the house has cleared out … both sets of grandparents are gone after weeks of dedicated service to the sparklet. the house seems a bit empty now, kind of like we have empty nest syndrome in reverse.

even emily the cat seems lost for the extra attention.

but this is by no means the end: the virginia parkers are coming for thanksgiving, the spindler sisters at christmas, we’ll be in texas for a spindler-sister wedding in february, and we might even get the vermont parkers some time in between now and then.

normalcy … sort of

neither the lady sparkler nor i really have an idea of normal is anymore, but today felt like we were creeping towards there none-the-less.

mommy tested out her new guitar hero controller (she’s so happy!) in the morning, we walked over to auntie melissa’s in the afternoon, i cooked dinner and then we had a friend from the neighborhood drop by in the evening.

simple, every-day sorts of events … we just had a very small baby and a very happy set of grandparents along for the ride. so far, the “new” normal looks pretty good.
