Monday, 19 July 2004

Did a week on vacation. Hit West Virginia, this time Berkely Springs for three days, and Lost River State Park for 7. Very restful, very relaxing. Brought back a some pictures, too. It was allllll about good. Hiked the Staghorn & East Ridge trails, and the Razorback Ridge & Howard’s Lick trails.

Wow, did I hate that flash thing I created. I axed it, and it’s back to the basic HTML for me.

Memorial Day

Monday, 31 May 2004

Mocked up an inside page for the new site. Seems to mesh nicely with the front page, but God knows whether I will still like it in the morning.

There was a big event downtown all weekend, centered on the new WWII Memorial. Over the past month there has been two interesting articles in the Post on the Memorial, one on its appropriateness and the other on how WWII is being taught in schools.

One has to admire the service of our veterans, but you also have to wonder about how much this country reveres all things war…

Website, v6.0

Sunday, 30 May 2004

Got inspired, and am going to redesign the site. I went looking for things to scam, but couldn’t find much worthy of appropriation… tho 2 recent Webby recipients are providing with *some* inspiration.

Redesigned and broke out the front page. Added flash navigation, and a really big honkin’ vanity picture. By the best of my limited counting skills, I think this is version 6 of the site.

Last three designs (v3, v4 and v5 respectively) are here:

Best as I can recollect, v1 had a similar (tho less polished) tabbed file theme as v3, and v2 was black/yellow with some kind of map of russia with photos inlaid.

Flashback: First Pictures Together

Looking back, this appears to be the earliest known pictures of The Lady Sparkler and I. While we didn’t start dating until May 2004, we first met at a Christmas Party for work the previous December.

Actually, it turns out that had known each other since 2002. She was the press person for Campaign for America’s Future, and I was her web contact at the Carol | Trevelyan Strategy Group. We never actually met in person, but we worked together via phone and email on and off for over two years.

The funny things is I just assumed that she was 45, married, with at least two or three children. Turns out that wasn’t actually the case.
