website: host migration

Apr
25
2005

I used to have a good host. Well, sort of …

I just (today) left my job of four years at a small, progressive little online communication firm for hippies. As one of the perks of the job, I was allowed to host my personal web servers on a company IP address. God, I love hippies.

Now that I am leaving, however, I am screwed. Way back, when I used to have a house and a reliable internet connection, I served up pages from a server in my house. Now, I have to sign contracts with scary hosting companies whose websites make them seem like fronts for the Russian mob.

So, I chose blindly. I think mt stab in the dark was called Exabytes. They have servers in Texas … and Banglore (India, not Maine) so I am guessing I won’t get a lick of support that isn’t in Hindi.

The Washington Nationals played the first baseball game in Washington DC since the Senators left in 1971. The Nats beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-3.

symposium: how can bush market u.s. foriegn policy to the world?

Much better symposium this time through, though I still have reservations about the presentation’s applicablility to the program. Regardless, Ivo Spalatan was an interesting speaker, and was certainly well educated about the topic of his presentation.

Here is the final symposium assignment of the semester:

assignment: the revolution will not be televised

Apr
12
2005

This week the assignment at least made more sense on paper… Joe Trippi is widely revered as an internet campaign deity (although it begs questions about Al Gore’s role in the creation of the internet) this book would be much more appropriate for a Government class than a Communications course on internet strategies. Without a doubt, the book is an good read from cover to cover, and Trippi has some good anecdotes about the changing face of society. That being said, what I saw as Trippi’s two main themes — television is evil and be authentic — didn’t really apply well to the coursework.

This blog is now brought to you by the Apple Powerbook G4, which replaces a decade old G3 that just couldn’t take it any more.

Went to Dallas for a wedding, but managed (being the hippie I am) to make a pilgrimage to Dealey Plaza and the rest of the “historic” area.
